The Southland Conference, located in suburban north Dallas, and serving 13 member institutions in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, is seeking applications for the position of Marketing and Championships Assistant, a 10-month internship. The selected applicant, under the direction of the Sr. Associate Commissioner for External Operations, shall assist in the overall management of the Conference’s marketing and promotions, and the administration of championship events. This includes, but is not limited to: 1. Assisting in the development and coordination of the Conference’s year-round marketing and promotional programs; 2. Implementing approved strategies and activities for the promotion of the Conference’s championship events, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournament; 3. Assisting in the development and execution of game day plans to improve fan and student-athlete experience at Conference events; 4. Assisting in the Southland’s efforts as host conference for the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game; 5. Assisting with game day merchandise planning for championships, including on-site sales efforts when necessary; 6. Assisting with and developing “run of show” scripts for Conference events, including arrangements for entertainment, contests, fan events, kids’ activities, sponsor activations and other special presentations; 7. Traveling to and staffing select Conference championship events and other special events when necessary; 8. Working collaboratively with Conference staff and providing appropriate direction and assistance to institutional athletics personnel for the collective good of the Conference’s promotional and championships efforts; and 9. Performing other duties as requested by the Commissioner and Sr. Associate Commissioner for External Operations.
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of two years of student work experience in promotions, marketing, sports information, or event management at a Division I institution is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging technologies related to marketing and promotions, and sports event management is necessary, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Applicant should be proficient in Microsoft Office and other necessary office technology.
Additional Salary Information: The position, beginning Sept. 1, 2017 and concluding June 30, 2018, provides a monthly stipend of $1,800, plus participation in the Conference’s medical, dental and vision insurance plans.
