Fountain Valley School is a co-ed, college-preparatory boarding/day school enrolling 230 students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors in a diverse community to develop young adults who are courageous, open-minded, self-reliant, curious, and compassionate.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the assistant director is responsible for overseeing content on the FVS website, ensuring that it is current and mission driven. Likewise, this position is responsible for curating FVS’s online reputation ensuring that it accurately reflects FVS, its culture, standards and mission. The assistant director also coordinates all electronic communication to outside constituencies for all departments, and ensures that communications and other collateral adhere to the FVS brand and style. Additionally, the assistant director is expected to be an active and vocal member of the Advancement Office, anticipating the communication needs of the community and supporting advancement efforts.
This position is responsible for the tactical communication for all external FVS constituents, partnering with the director of marketing and communications to implement a strategic marketing and communications plan.
Ongoing writing, photography, video, and website content creation and updates
Coordination and execution of electronic newsletters to our constituents
Responsible for user (prospective families) experience on the external website
Support advancement efforts through creation of online campaigns and messaging
Liaison for athletic department communications
Academic program content sharing
Social Media – maintain strategic presence on various channels and monitor use
Train community on limits and use of social media
Apply best marketing practices in social media and online marketing, partnering with director of marketing and communications
In collaboration with the director of marketing and communications, develop and implement inbound strategy with internal measures
Communications budget monitoring
Support implementation of publishing and editorial calendar
Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications

Office environment working with adults and high school students. Physical demands: able to sit and stand for eight hours per day; able to lift 30 lbs. Some weekend and/or weeknight obligations.
Students, parents, alumni, advancement personnel, all other FVS employees and outside vendors
Bachelor’s degree and at least three to five years experience in related field; proven excellent writing and editing skills; experience in technology and website management; computer skills necessary include Adobe Creative Suite, basic HTML, movie editing software such as iMovie, web content management systems, and knowledge of Constant Contact or similar email marketing software. DSLR photography experience. Knowledge of running social media channels and their engagement principles. SEO and web analytics knowledge desired. Nights and weekend work occasionally required.
