Creative Services Manager - Marketing and Communication
January 26, 2018
Full Time - Administration
4 Year Degree
This is not your everyday graphic designer job.
McCallie School, an independent day and boarding school for boys in grades 6-12 located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking a Creative Services Manager to lead the school’s design in print and online, sheperd and grow the school’s brand, play a key role in web management, and serve as a vital member of the school’s award-winning communications team.
Reporting to the director of communications and marketing, the creative services manager will be responsible for the creation of a huge variety of print collateral, from a thrice-yearly flagship magazine to large-format artwork and direct mail pieces that shatter the mold in advancing McCallie’s 113-year-old brand. Beyond print design, we are seeking a candidate who can design in the digital space with an eye for the cutting edge and an ability to convey the unique energy created by a campus of 936 boys and the faculty and staff who support their learning and development. For this reason, an understanding of and commitment to McCallie’s mission is critical.
You’ll be a thought leader, driving the design campus-wide from athletics to admission while ensuring that the school remains true to its mission and brand guidelines in every public-facing product. You’ll work closely with the school’s top leaders, incorporating their feedback into your work. You will be a part of a redesign of the school’s website, a significant and broad-ranging development effort, and a plan to attract more high-caliber students from across the country and around the world. In short, you’ll be a vital part of the school’s success.
The Successful Candidate will have:
Experience. This is not an entry-level job. To be considered, you’ll need meaningful experience either with an agency or in-house doing full-spectrum design work and brand management.
Energy. McCallie is a place that never slows down and this position is at the center of the action. It’s a fast-paced and high-pressure job, and you’ll need to keep up.
Organization. You’ll manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines, large and small, and be responsible for meeting those goals on-time and ensuring every project meets the school’s high standards for quality.
Resilience. In this position, you will collaborate with departments from around the school with varying needs and expectations. You’ll have to incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders and handle that feedback professionally.
Expertise. You’ll need to hit the ground running, so you’ll need to know design software like the back of your hand, with an understanding of principles of design for print and online.
This full-time position is considered a salaried, exempt, year-round position, eligible for full benefits.
Eight or more years of full-time professional graphic design work, with five or more years of experience in project management and brand management and significant experience designing for the web.
Full proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) and Creative Cloud.
Experience working with content management systems such as WordPress, Blackbaud or Finalsite.
An understanding of the printing process and the ability to communicate effectively with printers on issues from pricing to quality control.
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study.
Portfolio submission: When you apply, please share a strong portfolio of your best work - PDFs of print pieces are fine. Once you submit your application through McCallie’s hiring portal, we’ll be in touch with the best way to share portfolio pieces with us.
Experience with inbound marketing, particularly with the HubSpot platform.
Experience in an educational communications and marketing environment.
Skill in digital photography.
An understanding of editing, particularly Associated Press style.
A master’s degree, or significant continuing education in communication or design.
McCallie is located on the side of Missionary Ridge. This position is located in Caldwell Hall, the main administrative building. The majority of the work will be performed at a desk using a computer, but you’ll travel around campus for meetings and events.
