Provide leadership, coordination and execution in the planning and development of comprehensive marketing and communications initiatives that support the strategic plans for Intercollegiate Athletics and Kent State University. Promote athletics to gain national exposure, optimize the game day experience, increase community/student engagement, and increase attendance to events. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of University Communications and Marketing, coordinating closely with the Deputy Athletics Director.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as primary point of contact between Strategic Communications, Marketing and Athletics.
In consultation and coordination with Strategic Communications and External Affairs and Athletics leadership, develop and implement strategic marketing and communications plans for Athletics.
Ensure coordination between Athletics and Strategic Communications with marketing and communications initiatives, implementing projects on time and consistent with the University and Athletics brand guidelines.
In coordination with the Deputy Athletics Director, develop and oversee Athletics marketing and communications functions including advertising, Athletics website, social media, media partnerships, media relations, and game day experience.
Work with Athletics leadership and marketing teams to develop and execute strategic marketing and communications plans to increase community engagement, increase attendance to events, and gain national recognition.
Establish key metrics and evaluate effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts.
Provide direct supervision to unclassified employee(s); may supervise classified, student, or temporary employees.
Partner with Athletics in the ongoing development of a unique and engaging game-day experience
Develop and facilitate website and social media communications to assure broad dissemination of marketing messages.
Assist in budget planning and management.
Represent Kent State at functions and special events related to Athletics and other clients as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a related field of study (i.e., marketing, communications). Six years of marketing and communications experience, with minimum three years in a sports setting.
License/Certification: Not applicable.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Knowledge of NCAA and Mid-American Conference rules and regulations. Experience working in a decentralized organization.
