The Marketing Specialist will work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing to develop and coordinate the content of the institutional website, manage social media channels, write and develop marketing copy or other communications and assist in implementing University marketing initiatives. The Marketing Specialist will oversee content for all digital channels, with a focus on recruitment, audience engagement and brand awareness.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan fresh and engaging home page content.
Manage and maintain select institutional webpages, authoring and strategizing content for all primary and secondary pages.
Review development of tertiary (department or unit-level) content, ensuring brand guidelines are followed and institutional voice is consistent.
Work with the Division of Technology Services on refining on site architecture and design, and strategizing changes which optimize content for improved SEO.
Work with individual web authors to make sure web content and design are current and integrated across all university webpages.
Lead social media communications, ensuring prioritization and integration of messages with marketing objectives and branding.
Plan and author content for all institutional social media channels, maintaining the content current, relevant and engaging for target audiences.
Manage and plan work for student marketing staff/interns who support social media communications.
Participate in the development of marketing materials that respect brand guidelines.
Write copy for print publications as well as press releases and marketing materials.
Help coordinate advertising, promotion and publicity programs across campus.
Help coordinate story development with other communications professionals on campus as needed.
Participate in implementation of annual marketing plan tactics:
Manage relationships with external agencies and vendors.
Project manage marketing/advertising campaigns.
Analyze ROI data to assess success of marketing tactics and strategies.
Propose innovative campaigns to improve marketing efforts.
Manage or assist with public outreach events which promote the university.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree required (Marketing Communications or related field preferred).
At least 2 years’ relevant experience.
Independent project management and workflow oversight; strong time and deadline management; ability to prioritize and see projects through to completion.
Excellent communication, writing, and research skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work professionally and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of constituencies including internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical/problem-solving skills, along with a high degree of flexibility.
Knowledge of A.P. Style.
Knowledge of the current higher education media and marketing industries.
Familiarity with current issues and topics related to the University of Wisconsin System.
Working knowledge of Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite and CMS.
