Supervises and administers NSGA marketing, public relations and communication programs. Strategically participates in media interviews as spokesperson for the Association. Manages projects that lead to growing the value of the NSGA brand, positive perception of NSGA, increased engagement with those we serve. Serves as the primary contact for legislative issues both at the state and federal level. Represents NSGA member interests in broad-based coalitions. Identifies issue priorities and opportunities for advancing the organization’s advocacy efforts. Develops comprehensive strategies and approaches to address the legislative and regulatory issues and concerns of sporting goods retailers and dealers specifically, and the sporting goods industry generally.
RESPONSIBILITIES IN DETAIL:
Contribute to the value of the Association’s brand in the sporting goods marketplace and contribute to the value of our team. Build relationships that benefit NSGA.
Develop year-round public relations strategies and plans encompassing all Association departments and other activities, targeting trade, national, and consumer media.
Manages the NSGA website and its content, insuring accurate, timely and relevant information.
Plan, write, and supervise production and distribution of all public relations materials, such as electronic newsletters, news releases and press kits. Maintain and refine NSGA media distribution lists.
Help to develop, execute and monitor development strategies to enhance cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of members and supporters.
Represent the legislative and regulatory interests of NSGA before legislative bodies and their committees, and, governmental agencies and their committees.
Work and coordinate with membership to develop and implement programs in the legislative and regulatory areas.
Provide timely updates to NSGA leadership and members.
Activate and involve members in grassroots advocacy efforts.
Draft correspondence to Congress, state and federal legislators, committees, governing boards, and governmental agencies.
Manage and coordinate NSGA legislative fly-in with NSGA contractors.
Work directly with members either by phone, email, periodic visits or attending events in order to build and maintain constituent relationships.
Effectively manage contractual relationship with NSGA’s lobbyist firm(s).
Represent NSGA in order to connect with prospective members and/or further engage current members with our strategic aspirations, accomplishments and impact.
Potentially serve as the executive director of a retail association NSGA manages through a contractual relationship.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications:
Unquestionable integrity, commitment to advance interests of the organization, dedication to constant improvement.
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or other directly related field. Masters’ Degree or Certified Association Executive (CAE) a plus.
Minimum of five years’ experience in communications, public relations and print/broadcast journalism, marketing activities and/or public affairs.
Ability to think strategically, implement plans, and analyze results.
Ability to provide appropriate leadership within the overall team concept, while at the same time, maintaining personal accountability for success.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, and, social media tools including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter for the benefit of our members.
Highly developed communication skills emphasizing listening, and, seeking first to understand, then to be understood.
Ability to travel occasionally to fulfill responsibilities.
Experience in developing and managing budgets.
Ability to promote and present a favorable image, representing NSGA in the most positive light.
Experience in developing media plans and creative executions for advertising.
A great sense of humor and ability to function effectively as a part of a high-performance team.
