Laguna College of Art + Design, is seeking a full-time experienced Director of Marketing. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration and Entertainment Design.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing the long-term marketing and communications vision and strategies for achieving that vision for the College’s brand positioning, which promotes LCAD’s unique position in the marketplace. This position is responsible for managing and promoting the brand to both internal and external audiences through marketing, advertising, research, public relations, community relations, media relations, publications, web and internal communications. The Director of Marketing provides development, refinement, and execution of marketing strategies and goals in coordination with the Vice President of College Advancement, the Director of Admissions, and the Marketing Committee. The position supervises the Communications Manager, the Graphic Design + Digital Media Administrator, and the Webmaster. This position reports to the Vice President of College Advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reflects, articulates, and promotes the mission, vision, and identity of the College
Provides leadership, vision and direction for LCAD’s strategic marketing and branding efforts; Advises the President, Vice President of College Advancement, and Director of Admissions on how best to market and manage the brand of LCAD
Works with the LCAD Board Marketing Committee to develop innovative and targeted marketing and communication strategies that improve and elevate perception and awareness of LCAD brand
Benchmarks, evaluates, recommends, customizes and implements marketing “best practices” that support the College’s strategic plan and marketing plans
Builds and maintains positive working relationships with senior staff while playing a leadership role with understanding of strategic and tactical marketing issues
Makes recommendations to and provides support for the VP for College Advancement regarding marketing and communication issues, while keeping him informed of progress on both strategic and operational initiatives
Leads the development and management of the College marketing plan; Directs market analyses and researches to identify trends and opportunities
Directs official College communications for both internal and external audiences
Builds and maintains relationships with the media and functions as chief communications officer in order to promote LCAD
Oversees the direction, development, creation, and production of LCAD brand and brand materials in adherence with targeted marketing and communications strategies
Supports Development, Admissions, Student Services, and other departments in the development of materials and with branding for a variety of College events
Responsible for staying up to date on industry trends
Manages the budget for the Marketing and Communications department

Bachelor’s degree and graduate degree preferred or high school diploma and equivalent experience
Five to seven + years of demonstrated and successful marketing and communications experience with three + years in management preferred
Experience in higher education and/or arts marketing a plus
Experience in design or art direction preferred
Self-motivated, focused, proactive, and with a positive attitude
Thorough understanding of best practices within the marketing and communications fields
Strong project management and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects, deadlines, and all personnel involved
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop positive working relationships with all levels of staff, faculty, trustees, students and community members
Demonstrated experience in creating a compelling messaging for an organization
Demonstrated competency in working effectively and collaboratively with internal and external constituents
Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing a sophisticated media relations strategy
Demonstrated experience with social media
Physical Essential Functions
Sitting, keyboarding, may lift up to 20 lbs. without assistance, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and moving from one place to another. This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Occasional bending, stooping and squatting.
