Advertised Summary Job Description: Situated in one of the greatest universities and medical centers in the world, the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) is recognized as a global leader in addressing critical and complex public health issues affecting New Yorkers, the nation, and the world. The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion leads research in health promotion and health communication, trains the next generation of public health leaders to innovate and collaborate across disciplines, and bolsters the health of populations through active service and community partnerships. The Lerner Center is affiliated with The Monday Campaigns, a non-profit initiative that utilizes weekly periodicity to promote healthy behaviors through health campaigns (e.g. Meatless Monday, Move It Monday, Healthy Monday, DeStress Monday, etc.). The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health invites applications for a Marketing Director who specializes in Health Communication, Digital Strategy and/or Public Health Marketing. Reporting to the Lerner Center Director, the Marketing Director will be a health communication resource for the Lerner Center, Lerner Center affiliates such as the GATE Program (Gender, Adolescent Transitions and Environment) and Mailman School of Public Health students. Over half the Marketing Director's responsibilities will support SMS Lerner Center faculty members and the GATE Program. GATE is a research and practice program aimed at improving the lives of adolescents and women around the world through addressing issues related to pubertal health transitions, menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and access to sanitation in low resource contexts and humanitarian emergencies globally. The Marketing Director will specifically support GATE's puberty health agenda , including providing marketing and communications support aimed at the development and dissemination of the Grow and Know model global puberty books which have been published in seven countries (and growing). This will include drafting communication materials (e.g. newsletters, infographics, Op-eds), developing social media campaigns (including monitoring performance) and supporting the establishment of dissemination and outreach partnerships and platforms to facilitate the scale up of GATE activities and programming on both domestic and international fronts. The Director will also assist with supervising and mentoring Lerner Center Marketing Interns (master's level students) in collaboration with staff at The Monday Campaigns. General Minimum Qualifications: Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience. Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: * Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in a leadership role * Ability to present in a group or classroom setting * Excellent written and oral communications skills * Experience successfully executing an integrated communications strategy across digital platforms * Knowledge of and working experience with current and emerging social media platforms and trends * Experience using email marketing and social media publishing and analytics platform(s) preferred * Experience using a content management system (CMS) for updating web content * Experience on a health communications team a plus * Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, InDesign) preferred * Familiarity with multimedia production and formats preferred * Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously * Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies, and exercise tact and discretion when interacting with faculty, administrators and students Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or doctorate degree plus 5 years of professional marketing and/or health communication experience. Applications are invited from individuals with areas of expertise in the fields of public health marketing and/or health communication. Areas of research may relate to health marketing, health communication strategies and interventions, traditional and new media, message design and framing, digital analytics, or social marketing. Practical experience in the communications/marketing field is required; Global experience and a passion for health and social justice is highly preferred.
