The Assistant AD for Marketing and Promotions creates and executes marketing and in-game promotions for the Department of Athletics. This position develops all marketing plans and oversees campus and community promotions that encourage fan engagement and attendance and organizes events and operations related to the game experience.
Develop, organize and implement all athletic and sports specific marketing plans for 19 varsity sports programs. Assist with planning and marketing related to special events, tournaments, and post-season play. •Conceptualize, develop, and implement pre-game and campus activities in partnership with multiple campus entities, including Homecoming committee, student programming board, alumni relations, etc. •Develop athletics planning calendar that outlines annual/seasonal promotions and events surrounding contests with ticketing, corporate sponsorship, and athletics media staff •Engage in, report back, and lead discussion on campus partnership opportunities •Communicate with coaches regarding marketing plans, and work collaboratively with athletics external team to market and brand events
Increase event attendance and ticketing revenue through promotions and outreach with campus and community organizations. •Organize ticket outreach and promotions •Organize involvement and communicate expectations with student-athletes for involvement in campus events, such as Husky Spirit Days, Husky-Palooza, Main Street, etc. •Enhance brand identification and value through positive community relations and deliberate community outreach initiatives •Assist in managing athletics social media accounts
Execute game day marketing and promotions operations for all sport programs, including specialized attention to men’s and women’s hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and football. Hire, supervise and train student Marketing Specialists and direct their responsibilities related to game day operations. •Organize in-game promotions •Develop and organize game scripting •Communicate with various conference offices (NSIC, WCHA, NCHC) related to special promotions or game content •Ensure quality presentation of home athletic events •Schedule outside groups for half-time and intermission activities •Serve as liaison to band, cheer, and dance team •Serve as tournament director for assigned competitions •Assist in hosting tournaments and post-season competition
Provide oversight of video and creative content production produced internally and in collaborations with Mass Communications program •Ensure communication between coaches and video content developers to schedule and produce shoots •Assist with graphic content and themes for special events and outreach •Oversee completion of video board content including hockey intro videos, sponsorship, and in-game graphics
Serve as liaison to band, cheer, and dance team. Hire, train, and organize schedule for mascot(s). Arrange national anthem singers. •Communicate schedule and expectations in conjunction with Campus Involvement •Ensure quality of performance by student groups •Partner with academic programs to provide marketing/promotions/game management support through practicum and internship opportunities
Assist with sponsorship fulfillment in conjunction with St. Cloud State Sports Properties (Learfield).
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Associate Directors of Athletics.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing, advertising and promotions, sports information, event planning or related field.
Strong knowledge & understanding of an athletic department at a post-secondary collegiate/university level, including commitment to a comprehensive varsity athletics program that is ethical and reflects equitable opportunities for men and women.
Strong background in marketing and promotions, including the ability to develop creative marketing plans. Ability to communicate those plans in a timely fashion and ensure implementation in collaboration with coaches, ticketing, creative services, media relations, development staff, and campus partners to enhance athletics exposure and game experience for fans.
Strong interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) involving multiple constituencies both internal and external to the University; commitment to strong customer service
Strong organization skills and the ability to maintain multiple ongoing projects at any given time
Demonstrated ability to establish effective goal-oriented relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, University colleagues, and community members
