Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of OAD Strategic Events and Senior Executive Director, OAD Strategic Events in coordination with Executive Director of Digital Marketing Initiatives, the Events Marketing Coordinator for Office of Alumni and Development (OAD) Strategic Events will support initiatives established as part of Columbia University's comprehensive alumni and development strategic event programming.
The primary responsibility is email and print marketing strategist for all OAD and specific school based events that the Strategic Events unit is responsible for.
Creating and generating email and print marketing for all events managed by the team within OAD.
Develop innovative ideas and diverse strategies that would increase engagement, awareness and event attendance.
Review and create applicable audience segmentation strategies.
Manage complex lists utilizing high level excel procedures.
Collaborate with the Executive Director of Digital Marketing Initiatives and team members to ensure marketing and digital communications are coordinated with staff across all levels within the department and University.
Partner with digital initiatives to develop marketing strategies which includes outreach plans, messaging, and social media platforms.
Develop and provide guidance to Strategic Event leads within the unit for development of various multifaceted event e-mail templates.
Have an understanding of Columbia's alumni engagement metrics; identify areas where this information can inform and impact online communication and programming.
Create sustainable processes to ensure that data is properly captured in University Database when collected through various channels.
Maintains databases, prepares reports and conducts data analysis.
Develop and analyze various metrics including open rates, response rates, click through rates, RSVP vs. attendance for events, attrition, social media responses.
Designer of meaningful strategic follow up in partnership with Digital Marketing Initiatives team in preparation for event review.
Prepare with event leads the following consistent templates:
o Create concepts, develop marketing materials, manage projects, and ensure messaging is consistent
o Design save the date, targeted invites for various versions, PDF's, confirmations, programs, menu cards, holding slides and post event surveys
o Lead and guide internal clients on the utilization of Social Tables platform for seating placement and best practices
o Design work with photographer, videographer for onsite and follow up strategy development
o Maintain database, Prepare Athena reconciliation
o Key role in identifying audience outreach and analysis and data management from multiple sources
Events Marketing Coordinator is also responsible for supporting the Strategic Events team on the execution of day-to-day operations including initiatives established as a part of the Office of Alumni and Development including our capital campaign efforts. Events Marketing Coordinator will also aid in making recommendations for improving event processes and procedures in order to enhance and improve workflow, collaboration, and communication within Alumni Relations and throughout OAD. The Events Marketing Coordinator will collaborate with and provide support to the team through planning, managing, and executing a variety of email and social media and programs for all partners in OAD.
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent, including a minimum of two 2+ years' related experience.
Proficient in word Press and Adobe Photoshop is also preferred. Proficiency with Exact Target, Google Analytics and other tracking and analysis tools preferred. Marketing, events, advertising or graphic design experience preferred. Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are preferred. An interest and/or eye for design is a plus. Prior experience working in a higher educational institution or similar non-for-profit organization is highly preferred.
Proven digital marketing experience with hands on experience with HTML, Marketing Cloud/ Salesforce and content management systems. Possesses proofreading and/or copy writing skills. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: teamwork, analytical thinking and customer service. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work with changing priorities across multiple projects with multiple groups. The Marketing Coordinator must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and an acute attention to detail. Must be able to independently troubleshoot and problem-solve, as well as identify when to escalate issues when necessary. This candidate needs to be flexible with time sensitive projects and evening and weekend work.
