The American Anthropological Association (AAA), the largest professional organization of individuals interested in anthropology, is seeking a Marketing and Communications Manager.
This position contributes to the Association’s success by developing, implementing and evaluating communications and marketing strategies, and increasing member engagement and public outreach on AAA publications, meetings/conferences, and other activities, products and services. The successful candidate will collaborate across AAA departments to develop unified messaging strategies designed to increase awareness of the value of anthropology and its contributions to society with students, employers, current and prospective members, policy makers, and the media. Media relations skills are especially important. Working with the Director of Communications and Public affairs, this position guides the strategic use of social media channels and ensures visual continuity across all platforms.

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree (BA or BS) in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing. An additional degree in Anthropology or a related field is a plus. Candidates should have at least 3 - 5 years of experience in a communications or marketing capacity, preferably for a non-profit or membership-based association. Proficiency with content management systems and email marketing platforms (e.g. Informz) is preferred. Demonstrated experience providing content for and promoting, new media portals is highly desirable. We are looking for a strategic thinker and planner with demonstrated time- and project-management skills, including an ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Exceptional oral and written communications skills are required, with capability of drafting concise, compelling text.
